The Heart of Winter Mittens

I’ve been amazed of my blogs international intrest. Especially since my posting language is Finnish and it’s going to be so in the future too. My patterns have caught international attenttion and the translations have been offered for me without asking. This was the story with The Heart of Winter Mittens- pattern as well. I hope you can enjoy this pattern. Special thanks to Valerie.

Pattern
Translation: Valerie Klatt
Needles: 4 mm DPNs (US6) or size needed to obtain gauge.
Yarn: DK/Lt. Worsted wt, approx 2 balls
Beads: 8/0 seed beads, approx. 110 beads for each mitten
Gauge: 18 st/26 rows = 4 inches
Thread 108 beads on the yarn. Stringing them over a thin wire will facilitate the threading.
Left mitten
CO 44. Distribute among four needles, 11 st each. Begin rib – P1, *K4, P2*, repeat between *-* 7 times, K1 and join in the round. K 10 rows in rib, then start lace patterning: continue on N 1 & 2 with ribbing for entire mitten, except as noted for gusset; the lace pattern will be on N 3 & 4 and always starts with K5 and ends with K4 (so K5, lace pattern per chart, K4). The exception is the first row of the chart – you will K6 at the beginning, K5 at the end.
Knit 2 rounds of ribbing/lace. On third round, complete N 1 ribbing. On N 2, continuing in rib pattern as established, knit 7, M1F (Make One Front - From the front, lift loop between stitches with left needle, knit into back of loop), K3, M1B (Make One Back - From the back, lift loop between stitches with left needle, knit into front of loop), knit 1. Increase this way every 3 rounds x 6 more times. Continue with lace pattern on N 3 & 4. When increases are completed, knit one more round. Next round, knit to start of gusset, place 17 st on holder, CO 3 to close gap, continue in pattern to end of round.
Continue ribbing and lace patterning as before (ribbing on N 1& 2, lace on N 3 & 4) until 7 pattern repeats have been completed. Knit first 3 rows of lace pattern, continuing in ribbing on N 1 & 2 on these 3 rounds. On next 3 rounds, begin St st on N 1 & 2, continue lace pattern. On 7th row of lace pattern, begin decreasing – N 1 & 3: K1, SKP, knit/lace pattern to end; N 2 & 4, knit/lace pattern to last 3 st, K2, pass first knitted st (the one more right) over second knitted st (on the tip of right needle), knit last st. Continue decreasing in this manner every row until 8 st left, cut yarn and draw through remaining loops, snug up and weave in when done.
The right mitten

Thumb
Place the 17 st from holder on DPNs, picking up 2 add’l st at thumb opening to close gaps. Divide these 19 st on 3 DPNs. Knit in St st until length is halfway up thumbnail, then begin decreasing at the end of each needle on every row by knitting 2 and passing the first knitted stitch over the one closest to needle tip until there are 3 st left. Cut yarn, thread through remaining 3 st, snug up and weave in ends.
Chart

Legend for Chart:
Empty box = knit
Circle = Bring a bead up, M1F (Make One Front) - From the front, lift loop between stitches with left needle, knit into the back loop, bringing the bead through the knit stitch with the yarn as the stitch is being worked. This will make a smaller hole and bring the bead to the front of the work.
Empty Upright Triangle = KKS - K2, pass first knitted st (the one more right) over second knitted st (on the tip of right needle)
Black Upright Triangle = SKP - Slip 1, knit 1, pass slipped st over knitted one
Empty Right facing Triangles = K1, K3tog, pass the single knit over the st over the resulting K3tog st
Black Left facing Triangles = K4tog
P.S. Leave a comment (You can do it in English.) if you use this pattern, please. (It would be fun to see your version and share the knitting experience.)

Help!!!
The first row of the lace pattern has 4 circles (therefore, four additional stitches are created. There are only two triangles (one black, one empty) so only two stitches are decreased. This leaves a net increase of two stitches for the row. This means there are now 24 stitches in total on N3 and N4…but Row 3 of the lace pattern only deals with the original 22 stitches. What do I do?
Each facing triangle stands for two stitches. So the row 3 evens the amount of stitches.
